This week we had the chance to ask Dean Midas some questions about his short film Valentine’s Eve, and his thoughts on the filmmaking process and short film industry in general. Here’s what they had to tell us…
Interviewer: What inspired you to make this film?
Dean Midas: I originally wanted Eve to be a Christmas killer, but at the last minute I changed it. Then, rather than have it on the world’s most romantic day itself, I made it Valentine’s Eve and Eve Valentine was born.
Interviewer: From the lessons you have learned through your experience, what advice would you like to give to aspiring filmmakers?
Dean Midas: Go for it. My films are all shot on mobile phones, they have won awards and been shown around the world. If you work hard, get a good team around you, then great things can happen.
Interviewer: Valentine’s Eve forms part of a franchise of films you have been making, did you always have more films in mind, or was it something that developed after you made the first one?
Dean Midas: The goal was always for the two characters (The Rag Dolly & Eve Valentine) to have a fight, but to do that I had to get them out there and build up their stories.
Interviewer: Why do you think Short films are important?
Dean Midas: Short films are priceless to our industry. Not everyone has the budget or time to make a feature length film.
Interviewer: Where do you see the film industry going in the next 3-5 years?
Dean Midas: I am hoping more and more people come into film making. It is a magical art and I love being a small part of the film family.
