Ok, before we begin, I should lay my cards on the table and reveal that I am no Trump fan. Who is quite frankly? Oh, wait, I forgot – apparently 41.5% of Americans surveyed approve of the low-grade rodeo that is the Trump presidency.

I guess he must be doing something right.

At the time of writing, I’m in Mexico, a wonderfully vibrant country with a rich culture that has shown me nothing but a warm welcome. Though the country has not yet received the honor of being called a “shithole” by Trump, as many countries in Africa were, Trump has not been shy to tell the world exactly what he thinks about the place and the people.

Accusing Mexican’s of taking American jobs and the Mexican government of sending thieves and rapists up over the border (ironically,  the U.S government has already spent $100,000’s bringing the biggest criminal in Mexico, notorious drug boss El Chapo to the U.S), finally, Trump has had enough.

He is now hustling congress to allow him to build his 30ft border wall. As one political satirist pointed out this is something that will only lead to business savvy Mexicans selling 35ft ladders to get over it. At a predicted cost of 10’s of billions of dollars, he is going to build this pointless symbol of ignorance and stupidity as a monument to all that is the 45th President of the United States.

I’m guessing now you see that I’m being rather modest when I say I am no fan.

Oh, for anyone wondering how Mexicans are taking all this bile spewed out by Trump, here are two quotes from a set of t-shirts I saw in a local market. The third was too rude to print.

The Fallen Star

On July 25th, the American media reported that, for the second time, Trump’s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame had been vandalized.  For yet undisclosed reasons, Austin Clay, a 24-year-old American took a pickaxe and vandalized his star beyond all recognition.

Leron Gubler, president of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, issued a statement saying “when people are unhappy with one of our honorees, we would hope that they would project their anger in more positive ways than to vandalize a California State landmark.”

Austin Clay has now been charged with one felony count of vandalism.

Donald Trump: Persona Non-Grata

The news went from bad to worse for Trump. Soon after the vandalism, the news broke that the West Hollywood City Council had voted to remove Trump’s star from the Hollywood Walk of Fame completely.

I’m guessing that the president will actually be wishing that this story turns out to be fake news (sorry, I couldn’t resist). After all, Trump is nothing if not an underdeveloped schoolboy ego.

Having his star removed is almost certainly going to provoke one of his trademark vicious outbursts, this time aimed at Hollywood.

It’s funny that a keyword search for “Trump attacks” in Google reveals some 236,000,000 results, probably the only case of Google ever coming up short on the real number.

Less than 24 hours ago, Trump lashed out at NBA star LeBron James after he made reference to Trump being “divisive”.

Trump responded by tweeting “Lebron James was just interviewed by the dumbest man on television, Don Lemon. He made Lebron look smart, which isn’t easy to do. I like Mike!”

Need I say more?

I think Don Lemon said everything that needs to be said in his emotional address on CNN.

Interestingly, Trump’s wife, Melina, tweeted her support for the Lebron James. Add this to Trump’s numerous (alleged) affairs, I wonder if Melina will be voting for the Democrats in the next election? Who knows? Perhaps even campaigning for them too.

Still wondering why West Hollywood City Council voted to remove Trump’s star?

The Right or Wrong Decision?

CEO Leron Gubler explained that this exceptional decision was made in light of Trump’s behavior towards women.

“Having a ‘star’ on the Walk of Fame is a privilege that is highly sought after by those in the entertainment industry, allowing Mr. Trump to continue to have a star in light of his behavior toward women, particularly in the #timesup and #metoo movements, should not be acceptable in the Hollywood and entertainment industry communities” he said.

But is it right to remove a star, especially since disgraced stars Bill Crosby and Kevin Spacey still have theirs? It is hard to keep a level head given just how much negative emotion swirls around upon even the mere mention of Trump.

However, it is important to remember, despite the famous Billy Bush tape in which Trump boasts that his fame allows him freely molest women by “grab(ing) them by the pussy“, alleged affairs by pornstars who Trump later (allegedly) paid off to remain silent, and a host of nasty public attacks on women who dared to criticize him, we must remember that Trump has never actually been convicted of a crime.

To any rational member of the human race, certainly anyone above the mental age of 4 (sorry Donald, you don’t qualify) , the evidence, in this case, would take a jury less time to reach a conviction than the case of New Zealand vs. Nicholas Clive McAllister. However, the law is still the law.

A founding pillar to the democracies we all thrive in and depend so much on is the rule of law. In the United States, a person is innocent until proven guilty. Convicting a person simply on our overwhelming revulsion of them would break down the very fabric that protects all of us.

The Answer: No, well kind of

At the end of the day, the West Hollywood City Council is free to remove the star if it pleases. Should a city council be making political decisions? Probably not, but the truth is this happens all the time.

A more central issue lies in the double standards of the council. Their claim that they are responding to a changing social climate is admirable. However, start by removing the star of those convicted of such crimes, namely Bill Crosby. After the right example has been set, we can talk about Trump.
